If the House doesn't pass something by Friday, Obama ought to dissolve the House of Representatives by executive fiat, and hold immediate elections. Make every member stand election for their seat.

Better yet: Don't let any of the current members run. Replace all of them.

It's pretty unlikely any of them would win re-relection.

Are you kidding? Representatives typically have a better than 90% reelection rate. Sometimes as high as 99%.

But the ones who are the biggest impediments to accomplishing anything are the ones who are most popular in their gerrymandered districts. The best way to clean up Congress is to eliminate professional politicians. Severe term limits may be a good start. Short campaign cycles (six weeks sounds about right). Make it illegal for Congressmen to participate in any manner in donation gathering. And a 40-hour work week might help as well. Make everything a Congressman does a matter of public record. Every meeting in which congressional business is discussed (even tangentially) must be recorded and published within 24 hours. Don't let these fuckers get away with the kind of crap they've been pulling for the past two hundred years.
