Single Income vs Double Income Families

Report on NPR this morning said on average people in their forties are earning about a thousand dollars more per year than their parents did in their forties.

The difference is, now it takes two wage earners to do that.

Yup. And if you can't do that for some reason it's the poor house for you. God forbid you have a disability or a child with one. Or just a situation where you can't work because you have to care for a family member. Of course you could pay someone to care for them for you but chances are they'd want more than you'll get paid. It's all such a wad of shit. Row you bastards!

An experiment done in Canada on giving everyone a guaranteed wage.

What this country needs is not a minimum wage, but an economic evaluation of every large business. Any business that does not pay their employees enough to live on should be put into receivership and restructured so that the business is a contributor to society rather than simply a sponge soaking up money for a privileged few. The trillions of dollars accumulated and held by the obscenely wealthy people and corporations is a drain on the economy, reducing - sometimes eliminating - the benefit which business should provide to the economy.

Yeah, I know, I'm not a very good capitalist.
