Interesting article.

We've known for a long time that not all feathered creatures could fly (ostrich, emu, penguins, etc.). And that feathers are not required for flight (bats). So, I guess it makes sense that the dinosaurs' feathers served a purpose other than flight.

We now know that many dinosaurs had feathers, or feather-like coverings (even if the purpose wasn't flight). That makes me wonder WHAT ELSE we have misinterpreted about dinosaur physiology.

Were the bony plates on the back of the Stegosaurus really just the anchor points of large fleshy protruberances, or elaborate fins, or maybe non-movable wings?

Were the bony neck plates of the Triceratops the anchor for a huge wing-like collar surrounding the head?
